I have always heard music in my head in amazing and rich detail ever since I was a kid. I have never been able to explain it. While theory DOES matter, it is only a tool for getting your ideas into action. I think people, too often, begin to RELY on theory for creating music. Learn the principle, abide by the principle and then dissolve the principle.
